Summer time and the livin’ is easy.
Well most times the livin’ is easy because it’s too hot to do anything else. Between the heat and the humidity our guitar strings take a real beating. String tone dies quickly and the strings become stiff and hard to bend. You can help your strings last longer by wiping them down with a little alcohol on a cloth or a product such as “Fast Fret“.
It also helps to wash your hands before playing (not such a big deal for adults but you should see some of my students hands). The Elixir strings have a coating on them that protects the string from corrosion and also helps with that annoying squeak that you get when you move your left hand.
Another problem is playing your guitar outdoors at night. If you have an outside gig and immediately close your guitar back up in your case , you really need to air it out the next day. You’d be amazed how much moisture can be on your guitar, which then just stays inside the case and starts rusting everything.
